Jazz is not just a shower; it's an artistic statement. The design, reminiscent of a trumpet, aims to create a unique bathing experience that transcends the mundane. The shower's form is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical for homes with limited space. The innovative design has made Jazz a standout in the realm of bathroom fixtures, earning it the Golden A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2017.
The creation of Jazz was a meticulous process. Mititelu began with sketching the shape of the shower, ensuring the right internal mechanism to fit its unique form. The actual object was constructed using copper pipes, with certain parts like the "trumpet bell" built out of clay and cast in acrylic resin. The final touch was the application of copper wires on the entire object, a technique Mititelu has honed over five years.
Jazz is not just about aesthetics; it's also about user experience. The shower is controlled by two handles positioned on the right middle side of the "trumpet valves", marked with red and blue dots, the international symbols for hot and cold water. The close proximity of the handles allows easy control of water flow and temperature. Moreover, the hydrophobic treatment of the surface makes Jazz easy to clean and safe to use.
The project, which started in August 2016 and finished in February 2017 in London, was exhibited at the London Metropolitan University. Mititelu's research aimed to find new connections between artistic and functional objects, resulting in interactive usable artworks as luxury products for modern interiors. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with 95% of people who interacted with Jazz expressing fascination and interest.
Despite the challenges faced during the design process, including maintaining precision and quality without using a 3D printer, Mititelu successfully created a limited edition product that challenges traditional design interpretations. Jazz is more than a shower; it's a testament to the power of innovative design and the beauty of art in everyday objects.
